Mutants Among Us: save yourself from the lies of the beautiful people

THE MUTANTS AMONG US MEME

Evolution strives. For thousands of years, humans, homo sapien sapiens have been the King of Beasts on Earth. However, shortly after the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962, the public became aware of a new kind of species: homo sapien dominus - the Mutants.

Mutants are born the same as any other human, usually with no discernable differences. However, come the age of puberty, their genetic mutation becomes pronounced. This grants them one or several abilities, some more extreme than others. It may alter their form. Unfortunately, these powers rarely present themselves in a form that can be controlled without careful honing.

Governments everywhere quarreled over the issue of mutant rights. Were they still considered humans? Should there be a demand that they be registered? One thing was certain: mutants held within them the potential to be very dangerous. Whether or not they would excise their powers responsibly, there was still the possibility of them challenging the system upon which humanity had so carefully (and sometimes shakily) regulated.

While politics rage, mutants themselves seek a way to survive within society.

INSTRUCTIONS;

1.] Post with your character name, canon, etc, in the title. As a change-up, list whether or not they are a MUTANT or HUMAN as well. If this point can be conditional, please simply put "Either". ( Character Name | Fandom | (Mutant, Human, Either) | (POWER if Mutant) | (Interation Preffs) )

2.] If you wish, include in your post the explanation/extent of powers, faction preferences, (if human) opinion on mutants, universe preferences, etc.

3.] You may choose to write up a scenario if you already have one in mind, but it isn't required. If you DO write up a scenario, and are open to playing out a different one for those tagging in, please include a star (*) in your title.

4.] Go forth and tag others! There are FOUR sections you can take advantage of while rolling for prompts: 1) Human or Mutant; 2) Timeframe (with AU scenarios); 3) Faction Scenarios (Mutant and Human); 4) Mixed Scenarios (Mutant to/vs Human)

5.] Some of these prompts, especially concerning cross-faction things, may require OOC discussion beforehand. DO NOT BE AFRAID to talk it out with your potential partner before starting a scene! Pre-plotting is so very encouraged, although not necessary!

6.] Please note that you are required to roll for nothing. Prompts are only available for fun/the indecisive. Obviously play fair and have fun!

PROMPTS;

Briefly, here's how to work this thing for the COMPLETELY INDECISIVE.
First, roll for Mutant or Human:
~ Mutant -> Roll Timefame -> Roll Mutant Faction -> (If Mutant/Mutant) Roll Faction Scenario ; (If Mutant/Human) Roll Mixed Scenario
~ Human -> Roll Timeframe -> Roll Human Faction -> (If Human/Human) Roll Faction Scenario; (If Mutant/Human) Roll Mixed Scenario

SPECIES (1-2)

1.) Mutant. You are a member of the human race which has a mutated gene. That gene grants you a power and/or change of appearance, however great or small.

2.) Human. You are a normal human (or maybe you're a bit abnormal, but your abnormality does not put you in the class of mutant that we're talking about) living in a world where people with seemingly supernatural abilities exist.

Timeframe (1-10)

1.) Mutants Exist But are Unknown. Any time pre-1960's. Ancient Greece? World War I or II? Mutants exist, but they are unknown for what they truly are: a genetic evolution. Possibly their powers have registered them among the people as a god... or a witch.

2.) 1962: Mutants are Discovered. The Cuban Missile Crisis ended with a shocking display. A submarine was raised from the depths of the ocean. Russians and Americans, previously on the brink of nuclear war, look on in horror as fighting erupts on the nearby island, among jet and submarine wreckage. Turning their sights upon the unknown threat, the war ends as the US and Soviets come to the agreement to annihilate it together. Their missiles are returned to the sea. Foreign leaders everywhere announce the ceasefire... and divulge the presence of superhumans among the public. So far, it is unknown how they will be treated, but families are advised to note the presence of these people to their local governments.

3.) 1960's: Post-Cuba. Both the Xavier Institute for the Gifted and The Brotherhood of Mutants are in their developmental stages and recruiting for their differing goals. Local factions are erected in the community to support and/or teach their own mutants. Political debates wage and parents are finally aware of what the strange nature of their children means, meeting the knowledge with degrees of hostility or wariness both. For now, most governments HIGHLY ADVISE mutant registration, but it is not law. Mutants are still allowed in public schools at discretion, due to the nature their powers may grant them.

4.) 1970-1990's. Same as the above, only with the considerations of advancement in technology and other historical feats (some now mutant-flavored?). Mutants gain representation within the government. Several mutant extremists perform acts against the governments.

5.) 2006: The Cure. Using a gene from a mutant with the power to surpress all other mutant abilities, a "cure" was manufactured for those mutants who wished to become normal human beings. And it works - it reverts mutants, however extreme, into humans. This cure begins as a voluntary offering to mutantkind, but with a resulting uproar and attack on the Alcatraz research facility, began being used as a punishment by the government against mutants who used violent force. (Note: These events taken from X-Men: The Last Stand)

6.) 2006-2020: War. The Cure spurns and outright war between humans and radical mutants. Mutants become a force to be feared, reviled, and regulated among humans. They are forced to pick sides by either registering with the local government or joining a mutant resistance cause. Great chaos reigns. It is discovered that the cure varies on how long it lasts. (Note: The end results of X-Men: The Last Stand may be enforced or not.)

7.) 2020: Mutant Subjugation. The Mutant Brotherhood and the X-Men both are crippled by the losses of its leaders to the point where humans have overwhelmed the mutants. Mutants are now considered sub-class and are allowed to live only in specific districts, usually separated from humans. They are used only for certain jobs or weapons within the military and are regulated with the use of a special device (collars, bracelets, chips, w/e suits you) and are generally marked in some way (again, tattoos, chips, w/e). Humans are allowed to treat mutants as lesser creatures, such as pets or slaves, though this is not mandatory, and killing mutants is illegal outside of acts of self-defense or government action Human/Mutant marriage is not allowed, and technically neither is romantic relations, though the latter is more a taboo than an actual law. Mutant children are separated from their parents if no mutant is present within it and given to a foster family. A Permanent Cure is manufactured. Resistance/Criminality is met with the stripping of powers via the cure to acts of execution. It is illegal to hold meetings between mutants over a certain number. Still... a resistance broils.

8.) 2020: Mutualism. The war ends with a treaty being made between mutants and humans. Mutants are granted equal rights as humans, with special regulations inflicted upon them so that they do not infringe an advantage over the humans. Punishments include misdemeanor fees, imprisonment, basically the same as what humans can expect from law enforcement, with the notable twist that lesser sentence may be given if the mutant forfeits their powers via the cure. Depending on criminal history extent, the cure may be enforced anyway, though this is seen as the highest form of punishment. Human/Mutant marriage and Mutant/Mutant marriage is allowed. Registration is encouraged, but not enforced unless joining the military. Peace and co-existence.

9.) 2020: Human Subjugation. The war ends with The Mutant Brotherhood and other pro-mutant causes like it overpowering the humans. This is the reverse of 'Mutant Subjugation', where humans are the ones separated from major society into their own homeland. They are allowed to more freely mingle with the mutant community for working purposes, but they live separately in certain districts and are visibly marked for what they are in some way. Mutants are allowed to treat humans as lesser creatures, such as pets or slaves, though this is not mandatory, and killing humans is illegal outside of acts of self-defense or government action. Human/Mutant marriage is not allowed, and technically neither is romantic relations, though the latter is more a taboo than an actual law. Mutant children are separated from their parents if no mutant is present within it and given to a foster family. The Cure is the major punishment to mutants who betray their own kind or have proved themselves too irresponsible, though it may vary in the less potent cure (1-5 years powerless) to Permanent (fully human forever).

10.) Age of Apocalypse. A being called Apocalypse has arrived and has turned most of the Earth to wasteland, or is in the process of doing so. Humans and mutants band together to try to combat this powerful enemy and protect each other, constructing new communities/civilizations for themselves and trying to rebuild their razed planet. Consider this sort of like an Old West/Post-Apocalypse scenario in that there is not a lot of technology to be had and bandits/outlaws/gunslingers/arms-dealers/bounty-hunters are everywhere.

MUTANT FACTIONS (1-5)

1.) Charles Xavier's School for the Gifted. Ages 10-18 Students. This is a school converted from an enormous mansion in Westchester, NY, originally a family estate of Charles Xavier (AKA Professor X). Professor X is a powerful telepath who can locate mutants all over the world. He, or his agents (the X-Men) come to mutant children to offer them a place of acceptance and a chance to learn how to control their powers. The goal of the school is the following: teach rudimentary academics that would be offered in public schooling, teach mutant children how to control their powers (as opposed to letting their powers control THEM) in a safe environment, and teach the morality/responsibility that comes with being a mutant. Special care has been made to keep the school's true purpose a secret: the government and most parents simply think they've sent their child to boarding/prep school.

2.) Magneto's Brotherhood of Mutants. Ages 14-18 for TRAINING/RECRUITMENT ONLY. Missions at discretion, but usually 18+ for operatives. The Brotherhood was founded and is headed by a powerful, magnokinetic mutant called Magneto and a handful of like-minded mutants. Mutants of the Brotherhood believe themselves to be the superior species over the humans, but their acts change over time. They are the major extremist faction of the mutant world. The main goal of The Brotherhood is to teach mutants to defend themselves against humans, and prepare for the very likely possibility of war. However, their actions and missions have ranged between espionage (getting into the government and other places for spying) to extreme acts (like trying to convert a congregation of leaders into mutants - at the cost of a mutant life and not knowing that the process would actually kill the aforementioned humans). The Brotherhood recruits from the world (with less accuracy than Xavier, usually collecting imprisoned mutants) as well as the Xavier Institute through covert methods. So it's very possible you can be working with The Brotherhood while going to school... but you're not allowed to announce it (for fear of expulsion) or go on missions until you're deemed to have the proper proficiency. The Brotherhood is starkly against harming other mutants unless in the case of self-defense or the sake of a mission, but the killing of humans is less frowned upon. Operatives of The Brotherhood adopt a Mutant Name (ex: Magneto, Mystique, Pyro) in order to separate them from humankind (their "slave name"; ex: Raven Darkholme). They have several bases all over the world, usually in abandoned facilities, caves, etc.

3.) The X-Men. 18+ Operatives, with discretion. The X-Men are Prof. X's special team of mutants (most commonly his students) who are a force of justice for the world. They use their powers to settle conflicts or combat against extremist mutant attacks. The Brotherhood is their notable enemy, but they have a no-killing policy (save for extreme circumstances).

4.) Local Faction/Government. A mutant community that has been made in your local area. They may be activists, teachers, or simply a support group. Politics vary here. Make your own little gangs! More rarely, you could actually be in the government to act as a mutant representative in some capacity.

5.) Unaffiliated. Maybe you're a lone wolf with no plans to join any political agenda. Maybe you just have a small cluster of friends to fall back on. You're lead by no one, and culpable to no one but yourself and your local government. Or you could be a criminal, or a lone activist. The choice is up to you!

HUMAN FACTIONS (1-5)

1.) Government. You work for your local or federal or national government. Your political views of mutants may vary, but you follow the law (or maybe you enforce your own law within them, Kojack...?).

2.) Anti-Mutant. Mutants are an abomination. Or they're too dangerous not to be controlled. You want to enforce a lot of regulations on mutants to protect humans. Your activism may vary.

3.) Pro-Mutualism. You believe in equality between mutants and humans, and want to work together with them. Or maybe you would rather a separate but equal sort of deal?

4.) Pro-Mutant. You see mutants as the future. You may want to help mutants get their rights. You might wish to find a way to be a mutant yourself. Most extremely, maybe you see mutants as your rightful lords and masters, the inheritors of the Earth? Your activism may vary.

5.) Unaffiliated/Student. You really just don't care about the politics, or not enough to get involved in groups. All you care about is the rights/safety of yourself and your loved ones. (Note: You can be a student with any of the above political views too.)

MUTANT FACTION SCENARIOS (1-10)

1.) Discussion. Probably having to do with morality of mutants, politics, etc. You are having a talk about your views, whatever they may be. This may be a class thing, a way to pass the time, a debate, a getting to know you, etc.

2.) Training/Class. Simply to learn how to control your powers or in preparation for a mission. Maybe you're sparring? Or maybe one of you is the teacher and the other the student? Maybe you're both in a class together? This is the time to learn.

3.) Downtime. Just hanging out with the other person, meeting them for the first time, between classes, etc. This is a time for simple interaction... or maybe a date night? You're simply doing something in the company of one another, apart from political agendas.

4.) Into the City/Travel. You go out together or meet in a place intermingled with humans. Do you bond or hate each other? Will you be recognized as mutants by the humans or blend in seamlessly? Or maybe this is a place you've never visited before. How do you feel about it?

5.) Persecution. In some way, you've been facing negative responses. From your parents? Human strangers? Bullying from humans or your own kind? You're being punished in some way for being simply what you are. How do you take it?

6.) Mission. You've been given a mission and the two of you are working together in some way (or even fighting against each other).

7.) Faction Meeting. You're both in a faction meeting, listening to the leader and talking quietly amongst yourself, dealing with it in your own manner. There may be a break for a discussion or administering chores/missions, etc.

8.) Partnered. For whatever reason, the two of you have been partnered. Maybe it's as simple as getting a roommate, or maybe it's for an upcoming mission. This can be in the beginning stages or later on.

9.) Initiation/Recruitment. One or both of you are being asked to join a faction by its operatives (maybe one of you is the recruiter). Or you're entering into a faction and need to prove your worth in some way in order to join.

10.) Wildcard. Roll for the above prompts, a mixture, or make up your own!

HUMAN FACTION SCENARIOS (1-10)

1.) Discussion. Probably having to do with morality of mutants, politics, etc. You are having a talk about your views, whatever they may be. This may be a class thing, a way to pass the time, a debate, a getting to know you, etc.

2.) Training. If you're within a faction that uses force, you're training your physical or mental properties. Could be school. Could be prep for a rights debate.

3.) Downtime. Just hanging out with the other person, meeting them for the first time, between classes, etc. This is a time for simple interaction... or maybe a date night? You're simply doing something in the company of one another, apart from political agendas.

4.) Into the City/Travel. You're going out together. Interacting with mutants is a high possibility. What will you do together? What will you see?

5.) Persecution/Attack. In some way, you've been facing negative responses. Bullying from mutants or your own kind? You're being punished in some way for being simply what you are. Are you in the middle of an extremist attack together? How do you both take it?

6.) Mission. You've been given a mission and the two of you are working together in some way (or even fighting against each other).

7.) Faction Meeting. You're both in a faction meeting or convention, listening to the leader/speaker and talking quietly amongst yourself, dealing with it in your own manner. There may be a break for a discussion or administering chores/missions, etc.

8.) Partnered. For whatever reason, the two of you have been partnered. Maybe it's as simple as getting a roommate, or maybe it's for an upcoming mission. This can be in the beginning stages or later on.

9.) Initiation. One or both of you are being asked to join a faction by its operatives (maybe one of you is the recruiter). Or you're entering into a faction and need to prove your worth in some way in order to join.

10.) Wildcard. Roll for the above prompts, a mixture, or make up your own!

MIXED SCENARIOS (1-10)

1.) Discovery. One of you just found out the other one is a mutant, on purpose or accident. Maybe it's a sort of 'coming-out' you didn't quite expect? Or did you? You've probably known this person for a little while. How do you react?

2.) Manifestation. One (or both) of you come into your mutant powers and pays witness to the other. Is it a traumatic show or a LOOK WHAT I TOTALLY JUST DID, IT'S REALLY COOL DOOD trick? Usually mutant powers show up at puberty, but it can be earlier or later, too. How do you take this? Are you okay, or are your parents going to kill you?

3.) Show of Power. The mutant is showing their power, either for good, evil, or on accident. Maybe they're just showing off? Do they mean to intimidate? Conversely, the human could be brandishing a weapon, threatening to get the authorities, a capability that they've learned, etc. Is this a pissing contest or something fun/interesting?

4.) Conversation. You're chatting each other up and getting to know one another. What do you personally think of this issue? What's your power like? Do you ever feel like...? Or this could be an argument of views.

5.) Conflict/Competition. You've gotten into a fight or are in competition for something, depending on how friendly you do or don't want this to be. Are you keeping it to an equal level, or is the mutant using their power to get ahead. Is that really considered cheating if they were born this way?

6.) Work Together and/or Play Together. For whatever reason, you're working together. Maybe you actually work together in a corporate fashion, or have decided to work together for some common goal. Maybe you're at a recreational event (convention, dancing, bar, etc) and really hit it off? Whether or not it's divulged that one of you are mutants is up to you.

7.) Distress. Something has happened that has distressed one or both of you. Maybe you've been hurt, maybe you're under duress. Maybe one or both of you have been trapped. Do you help each other, do you make it worse, or are you the cause? Depression - is one of you a therapist here?

8.) Friends OR (Forbidden/Taboo) Lovers. You're friends, either old or new, or you've decided to date/become lovers for better or worse. While Human/Mutant friendships are acceptable and not TOO strange (depending on your timeline), actual romantic relationships DO tend to seem taboo or gross to either side (mostly humans). Hang out together, go on dates, do the do if it pleases you... Explore how you feel when challenged by the world. Or maybe you've been living under the lie that you're both human...

9.) Persecution. Either one of you is bullying the other, or one or both of you are paying witness to this sort of thing. Prejudice, even in paradise, can still exist.

10.) Wild Card.

[personal profile] ferros 2012-12-10 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Erik is Magneto, a mutant with the ability to control electro-magnetic fields (usually this shows in moving/bending metal to his will). Depending on where he's pulled from, the strength of his abilities varies, and so would his weaknesses. He's susceptible to probably all non-physical attacks (telepathy, charm, etc), and he's only flesh and blood. What he can't block with magnetism or something he can magnetize to be a shield, he'll be hit by. Post-Cuba, he has a helmet that presumably blocks him from all mental attacks (notably telepathy), though he has to be wearing it.

Scenario Preferences:
~ I am open to exploring any time post-release from Auchwitz/Shaw up to the beginning forms of The Brotherhood. I do not have an older Mags muse (yet).
~ I am open to AU scenarios such as older times and modernized Erik, although if you want modern Erik, I'll have to think about how his past has changed (unless he's been transported via time travel). Time traveling/tourism could actually be a really fun idea, if you want to try that!
~ For any Charles (XMFC) out there, I would love to explore post-Cuba attempts at making up/continued friendship things. Particularly I would love to play out the scene where Magneto comes and helps Charles with the school for a time, building Cerebro, etc.
~ I would also love to time-trippy/AU see the Baldy Charles if one exists and they can have talks. This would also apply to meeting future!self (comic or movie, so open).
~ Him coming to recruit a mutant would be fun, and so would him training mutants (though he is a hard-ass and debatably this will not be fun for the student).
~ Really, just incredibly open to everything, from AU to canon. Talk and plot with me!
~ Only thing I stand on: please discuss shipping things with me beforehand, either here or by PM. Erik is emotionally a bit complicated.

Born Human Instead:
~ Just loose descriptor here, but Erik retains his past, lost his mother without the chance to save her. Survived to be a lone Nazi COW hunter without government affiliation. In search of Dr. Schmidt/Shaw since he was the head doctor of the facility.
~ Self-educated traveler of the world due to the aforementioned profession.
~ Pro-Mutant, wants to become a mutant, would get involved with any experiments or trials regarding that, though he would refuse to be a servant.

(How about the Master being a psycho-for-hire type? We could play a mission where they need someone who can make people disappear . . .)

James Bond | Craig!Films | Either

[personal profile] unstirred 2012-12-10 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Mutant Name: 007 or Provocateur

Faction:
Either way we go, he probably belongs to MI6. Maybe 007 is his Mutant Agent With License to Kill code? I'm pretty easy, though, so if you offer me a really good scenario where he's not MI6, I very well may bite.

Mutant Powers Scenarios (Take Your Pick):
1.) Regeneration - A high level of sturdiness and physical self-recovery. Gunshot wounds healed within the hour, cuts almost instantaneously depending on extent. Regrows limbs. Impact deaths harsh, but recoverable. I'm going to limit this by saying if he gets blown to bits or gets his head chopped off, he's so done.

2.) Wall-Waking and Camouflage - Ala Shadowcat, he can phase through almost any wall (maybe with the exception of lead or diamond or something) and blend in with his surroundings by going transparent, including clothes. He must stand perfectly still for this to work, and it'll not work on those with heightened senses of smell, heat sensors, etc.

3.) Empathy - Because I'm a dick. Bond can feel the emotions of those around him and has a moderate level of persuasion. He can suggest to someone that he's very charming (although he's mastered this to a degree where it's not needed), suggest a bad idea is a good one, or convince someone that they don't see him. This power is greatly increased by touch and only works at a certain distance. He can force people to feel things, even his own emotions. Again, he's pretty good at using this power, but a very strong will won't be convinced.

4.) Sentinel - All six senses are highly attuned. Hearing a dripping faucet in the kitchen while sitting in a crowded restaurant? No problem. Seeing for miles? Just need to squint a bit. Can get lost in all his senses if he's not careful and needs a good smack or someone to talk him out of it.

Scenarios:
Open to any, but if you're wanting to ship, please don't have it be the main event of the rp, that's all I ask. We know Bond is a shameless flirt and connoisseur of carnal pleasures, so open to either gender in this area (although he prefers women).

Scenario 6, prefer ability 3 for Bond!

[personal profile] watchesthewatchers 2012-12-10 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
[Peter's desk usually requires a great deal more subtlety than the 00 agents come with, so he hasn't actually worked with Bond before. He's been a fixture about the place for years, of course, but primarily works running deep cover agents, turncoats and moles. Bond's face is a little too high-profile these days for him to work much with Peter Guillam.

Which is why it's peculiar that he nods a greeting at him, on his latest trip through MI6. He doesn't so much as bat an eyelash, and his heart rate is steady, but Peter is feeling a thread of anxiety, a very real tremor of a man keeping something important secret. Not just in the abstract sense that they all are, either; Peter is lying about something, right now, and needs to catch Bond's attention in a big way.

All at once, the emotional turmoil vanishes, tamped down behind the powerful shields that all the operatives of Peter's caliber have trained into them. The exposure had been calculated, deliberate, a definite come find me later where we can talk. Here, in this building, the walls will be crawling with ears.

He communicates as much of this as he can with just a split second of eyecontact and one flash of sentiment. Then Peter bends back over his notes on North Africa and can only hope he's made enough of an impression.]

we will deff make it work

[ It's supposed to be a show of good faith, these things. It's the Russians and the French and the English, co-operating on a base that nobody knows about so they can pretend like it's all about setting a public precedent rather than trying to figure out who's got better agents (abilities) than who. They run drills and tests and eat together and house together, seperated by gender and not country, like that'll bring about some kind of loyalty. (It doesn't.) They plan missions; occasionally, they do more than just plan.

He's just spent the last week in Kandahar. On a tactical level, Bond and Nathan are a good fit — they've got regeneration and experience on their side. Neither of them have the time for handholding and that works even better, so the next time Nathan sees her, six am on the dot, it's with two cups of coffee, one of which he hands to her.
]

Peace offering, [ he explains, the quirk to his mouth not quite a smile, but close enough. ]

yup yup!

victor frankenstein / frankenstein [modern au] / preferably mutant

[personal profile] pyr 2012-12-10 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
mutant name; prometheus.

- death inducement (if he touches the living, i.e. if you're alive, his touch will literally kill you).
- resurrection (if he touches the dead, i.e. if something's dead, he will bring it back to life, but as a zombie).

- born to a wealthy, human family, victor's mutation peaks at age seventeen when he accidently kills his mother with his touch. fortunately, her cause of death is mistaken as cancer and victor leaves for university soon after. he leaves the university after two years to focus on his mutation and how to rid of it. while studying the dead body of a mutant (who had super strength and stamina), victor accidently brings him back to life. personality wise, he's cold, distant, and always wears gloves. while this can be perceived as pride and arrogance, victor just doesn't want to hurt anyone or anything. he sees his mutation as a curse (rightfully so) and works to find a cure.

- victor is not a violent man; he doesn't want to kill people. he only wants peace. so, he'd be on charles xavier's side. whenever is fine, but i'd prefer if the setting is 1960s.

scenarios; i'm open to any of 'em. though, i do ask for no shipping please. victor has enough angst on his plate without worrying whether or not he'll kill someone he loves.

born human instead; same like the book, but victor is searching for the gene that causes mutation. in the process, he brings a man back to life. he's pro-mutant.

pheromones: (charge me with assault)

gaila | star trek xi | mutant.

[personal profile] pheromones 2012-12-10 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
As her username implies, Gaila emits pheromones that attract human males and induce headaches in females. In canon she's an Orion, a race of slavers and pirates that have never gotten along with the Federation or its allies, but for this meme we'll set her in past or present day and explain her pheromones and green skin as a mutation. Oh yeah, she has green skin. Any scenario is fine. She'll be sympathetic to both sides of the argument. Ultimately she hopes for coexistence but depending on the hostility of the setting she will take up with whatever faction can keep her safest, considering the overt nature of her ability. At best, she'll be at Xavier's, and at worst with the Morlocks, chillin' in the sewers.

CAL TRASK ➝ east of eden [modern au] ➝ mutant

[personal profile] mayest 2012-12-10 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
mutant name; cain.

- empathic affinity (more specifically, he gains strength and some minor telekinetic powers from your misery (i.e. fear, anger, hate, sorrow, any negative emotions).)

- cal was always the second most beloved when compared to his younger twin brother, aron. while aron was good, pure, and had the face of an angel, cal could inspire to nothing but badness. he thinks he has a mark placed upon him by god. his mutation peaks when puberty first starts (so, at the age of twelve or thirteen). while he does receive some power from positive emotions, he finds that his powers are at their strongest when there's negative emotions. after accidently killing his brother, cal runs away from home.

- at first, cal joins magneto's brotherhood of mutants because it's comfortable, because he's so full of self-hatred and self-pity that it feels good to be around people that feel nothing but hatred and disgust. then, after charles xavier tells him that he doesn't have to feel like that, that he has his own destiny to forge, he then defects to charles xavier's school for the gifted, where he learns to hone his powers from positive emotions. this would be after the cuban missile crisis, so like the late 1960s, early 1970s.

scenarios; i'd love to do a thread concerning cal's time with magneto and his gang. or his time with xavier (where major angst will be had!) i'm fine with whatever.

born human instead; cal is anti-mutant, only because their powers frighten him and because if he can center this self-hatred onto someone else maybe he can hate himself a little less. or cal is neither pro- or anti-mutant; he'll still use the mutants to his advantage anyway he can.

Dexter Morgan | Dexter | Mutant

[personal profile] bayharbor 2012-12-10 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Mutant Name: A nonsense he hasn't yet indulged in. He's still acquired two names from those who have only seen his kills: The Dark Defender and The Bayharbor Butcher. He calls his killer urges The Dark Passenger, but that's the extent of aliases.

Faction: By day, Dexter Morgan, Human, blood-spatter analyst for Miami Metro Homicide. By night? Serial killer, Monster. He hunts and kills murderers and pedophiles, whether they're mutant or human. So, Unaffiliated, although he may skulk into mutant communities sometimes in search of answers.

Past: Same as his original one, only Harry found out and knew he was a mutant on top of his urges. He was taught to pretend to be human in order to survive.

Powers:
You pick or I will, depending on the circumstances.

1.) Blood-Bending and Waterbreathing. Shamelessly stolen from Avatar, blood-bending is the ability to manipulate the blood cells in a body and manipulate the body by forcing the flow to stop or go in varying directions. Extremely disconcerting and painful to the victim. Dexter can only do it within a certain range, against two people at most, and it requires extreme focus. It also tires him out pretty bad. Waterbreathing goes without saying and is limitless, though it does not allow him to dive to depths beyond what a normal human could stand in scuba gear.

2.) Sedation. At a touch, Dexter can make you very, very dizzy and disoriented or straight-up knock you out. He has to touch for this to work, like a sting. It will work through clothing, latex, and leather.

Scenarios:
- No shipping. He's married at this point in time or Very Complicated emotionally (S3 is my usual go-to, but I am up to date on current).
- Would particularly be interested in him finding a mutant support group to stalk into under a different name, and meeting mutants there.
- Open to any other type of scenario.

guiltapalooza: (☆ what even)

I'm just going to fly with your support group scenario, if that's okay? sorry this got long!

[personal profile] guiltapalooza 2012-12-10 07:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[If anyone needs a support group, it's Willow. Being a mutant instead of a witch, as in canon, hadn't done her any favors -- her life had followed mostly the same path, except here her powers weren't a secret. Oh, in general they were a secret, since she didn't announce them, but she was subject to the law the same as anyone else. In fact, her mutations made the law come down on her even harder. Willow was powerful, with conjuration (manifesting objects into reality) and telekinesis a dangerous mix. After losing Tara, the soothing influence on her life that inspired her to play within the rules and keep her power under control, she'd lost it. She'd killed Warren for murdering her, violently and painfully.

Turned out that getting a taste of that and letting it go was tough, hence she was here in support group. Not that she could admit to murder without being brought up on charges, but feeling tempted by what she could do was a pretty common mutant problem. She could talk about it abstractly, at least. Even if she felt incredibly awkward.

After the group sharing time where they all sat in a circle and sang kumbaya (not literally, thankfully), there was general socialization before leaving. Willow had taken a plastic cup of soda and was gripping it like a lifeline, anxious. She felt like anyone could look at her and know immediately what she'd done, how awful she was, how she didn't deserve forgiveness.

And now she'd have to talk to someone. Wasn't that what she was here to do? She'd barely said anything during group, but now she feels like she has to make up for that. She picks someone at random, someone not too much in the thick of things, and sidles over toward him, smiling nervously.]

Um. So. Is this your first time? It's my first time, which is probably really obvious cause wow, look at me, I just look like a firstie.

[Oops, unintentional Harry Potter reference. She really does need to calm down.]

I completely agree :D

abraham lincoln {abraham lincoln: vampire hunter} {preferably human}

[personal profile] 1865 2012-12-10 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
NOTE; i will be setting this in modern day, if only so everything meshes better.

mutant name; abe (i honestly cannot think of a better one.)

- enhanced condition (i.e. super strength, super stamina, etc.)

- born in a log cabin in kentucky then moved to illinois as a young teenager, his mutation is actually revered by his community, who sees it more as a result of a lifetime working on a farm. currently studying to become a lawyer.

- he will be on charles xavier's side. whenever time is fine.

scenarios; i'm fine with whatever.

born human instead; same as above. even though abe's human, he still has crazy strength (cos that's absolutely a historic fact) but that's mainly due to him growing up on a farm. he's sympathetic to the plight of mutants after witnessing the injustices they face. after becoming a lawyer, he goes into politics and speaks for rights for the mutants. eventually, he becomes president and a little war happens because of his pro-mutant policies. spoiler; after winning this war, abraham lincoln is assassinated on april 14 by anti-mutant actor, james wilkes booth.

[personal profile] eisenhardt 2012-12-10 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
human. a mutant ally who prefers not to involve herself in either side of the conflict despite her ties to her brother -- which she keeps secret for obvious reasons. unaware he was even alive until recently and still avoidant. she'd like to support him but can't. a museum curator who resides in france and keeps to herself. not a huge fan of soldiers, americans, men, people in general. would prefer scenarios set in the 60's or pre-60's era but au's welcome.

mutant au: ruth's ability is blood manipulation. at full potential she might be able to manipulate others', but as it stands she can only control her own. she produces more blood than a normal human being and has a healing factor to compensate for the injuries she has to inflict in order to draw it. she can psychokinetically use it to coat her hands and body, over which it acts as a strength and defence enhancer, protecting her. sees the merits in xavier's approach but will not leave erik's side or the brotherhood. never changed her name. mutant name: sanguine.

established cr, assumed relationships, and first meetings are all good!

so britta will either have the worst mutation ever or the best one. take your pick;

- sound conversion; a.k.a. the power that dazzler has, which is just converting sound into energy. or,

- superpower manipulation; a.k.a. sorta like what rogue of the x-men has.

mutant name; lavinia.

- same as canon (dropped out of high school, traveled the world, did a bit of foot modeling, now at greendale community college getting her psych degree), but with superpowers!

- oh, she'd def. be on xavier's side. i'm good with whatever time.

- scenarios; whatever is fine.

born human instead; oh she's pro-mutant and she's not afraid to tell people that. be prepared to hear about the sufferings of mutants and how you should help them.

dude dazzler is awesome

[personal profile] andabedinthemorning 2012-12-10 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[ At least Britta can create something. Troy's ability is that of Golden Age character Mr. Midnight who can stop clocks-- not time, clocks. How does he do it? By shouting "STOP TIME!" Yeah, he hasn't really figured that bit out. As far as Troy understands it, time does stop when he uses his power. Troy's power is awesome.

sure, if you say so.

✸ Freyr Anderson | Erebus ✸Based on Marvel Movieverse ✸ OTA ✸

[personal profile] foulmouthmutant 2012-12-10 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Mutant Ability: Freyr is 'gifted' - and uses that term lightly - with permanent night vision instead of normal eyesight. Going outside during the day is a pain (literally) and he is blind until he's in dim lighting or darkness. He doesn't realize the potential of being able to see easily where others cannot, and doesn't fear the darkness like they do. He's got a foul-mouth on him when he first meets people, and is very stubborn and hot-headed.

He also has slightly heightened hearing because of his vision situation.

Human: Still blind, still has heightened hearing, still smart mouthed and stubborn. Just no nightvision.

Freyr has no political affiliation - he doesn't really give a rat's ass as long as people leave him alone.

Scenarios: I'm pretty open to anything (Scenario, timeframe, I can work with it!), though I know him being in the student range makes it pretty limited. Recruitments are good (Freyr is 13, but I can up him to 14 or 15 if the Brotherhood is interested in having nightsight on their side), but you'll have a time convincing him.

[Steve had been searching high and low for the mutants he had known before this whole damned thing started, especially the kids. God knows where Tasha went, but he knew that she was probably lying low and plotting something to help them all out. Fi was with her in the last note he had gotten, thank god, and Sara was with some of the few government people they trusted, kept in a coma so no one would try to use her or her powers.

But Freyr... he was too good at running and hiding.

And thankfully, no one really wanted to put Captain America behind bars, and no one really resented him for being free. He was only a scientific experiment and was one of the loudest voices for equality.

That was when he saw a little boy with dark sunglasses sticking to the shadows of some buildings. So the tip was right!]

Eve Moneypenny ▸ Skyfall ▸ OTA ▸ either or

[personal profile] deskjob 2012-12-10 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
human
eve works for mi6, an agency that also employs mutants. she's in favour of equality and willing to defend that opinion, but she isn't going to let any mutants get away with making her feel inferior, either. can be set in any time from modern onwards, and i'm flexible on the scenario.

mutant
as a mutant, eve has the following mutation:
Stealth tactics; the user possesses incredibly extensive knowledge and skill in many types and ways of stealth tactics, enabling them to easily slip in and out of areas undetected. Their abilities in all manners of stealth are so refined they appear as mere illusions to those who have been lucky to spot the user. The users of this ability can move throughout even the most guarded of areas and act in true discretion.

Working together (whether Eve is human or mutant is up to you)

[personal profile] thenewq 2012-12-10 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Some said his technopathy gave Q an unfair advantage in climbing the ranks at MI6, but mutants have just as much a right to employment as nonmutants, and who better to have as Quartermaster than someone whose very being revolves around creating and altering technology.

Q walks into the employee lounge, head bent and attention consumed by his gadget du jour. He does have peripheral cameras rigged to feed him information on his surroundings, though, so he doesn't miss the other occupant of the room. ]

Good morning, Miss Moneypenny.

Faction: I can see him being on either side (or no side at all) depending on the situation.

Power(s): Phasing ability that allows him and objects or people with which he is in contact to become intangible. Much like Shadowcat herself, he can disrupt any electrical field he passes through, as well as simulate levitation with this power.

Scenarios: Open to anything during Timeframe points 1-4.

[Bruce Banner has spent the last twenty years of his life researching origin stories. The cradle of mutant life, the seed of whatever is causing what exactly is happening to humanity, and why it seems to be escalating.

He remains, in what is rapidly becoming a fraught conversation, almost naively a-political. His research isn't loaded with any goal towards prevention or control, doesn't seek to condemn, merely to understand. He does his work ethically, on voluntary subjects whose anonymity he protects utterly.

He has, in his time, been shaken down and roughed up by just about every faction out there with every agenda imaginable. He's stopped doing interviews in his little walk-up, out of the simple awareness that he's being watched. He compulsively codes and anonymizes his data sets.

He works long hours, makes a lot of tea, and is generally rumpled and unremarkable, which makes everyone come after his work just that little bit more.]

brad colbert possesses two abilities: manipulation of ice, including turning her own body into ice almost entirely, and medium-level telekinesis.

when it comes to affiliation, she could be
( 1 ) a mutant working for the government
( 2 ) one of the x-men
( 3 ) one of the brotherhood
( 4 ) unaffiliated

mutant name: iceman, never mind that she isn't male.

How d'you reckon they expect to teach you your power? [Luke was draped halfway off of David's dormitory bed, looking at David upside down as he unpacked. He was doing the thing where he was distracted enough to forget how he was supposed to look, and ended up blurring and flickering about the edges. There were so many new things, here. New concepts.] Nobody else has it, do they? At least America's loads better, now. David! We have to go touring. I'll design you a form to wear, if you want. I think I can manage it without singeing you, even, now that I'm not so hungry.

[Mutantism isn't illegal, no, but it is heavily frowned upon. It can be, for many, a barrier when it comes time for finding work, time for trying to find someone safe to sleep or eat. It leads to children thrown out of homes more often than not, to differential rates of adoption. Orphanages fill up slowly with children with something strange about them.

Until all at once, it seems to go away. There are fewer girls with yellow eyes being beaten and left for dead on the street, there are fewer boys with hungry faces and scaled skin begging for work at the docks or money at a corner.

Whispers go out, about opportunities down in the sewers.

And then, a few months later, an outspokenly anti-mutant senator turns up dead. It looks like a cocaine overdose, but then again, it would, woudln't it? People seem utterly unwilling to put two and two together.]

sixthanimorph: ([david] imperious)

David | Animorphs | Either

[personal profile] sixthanimorph 2012-12-10 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Mutant AU: Morphing like he normally does, except caused by a mutation instead of the blue box. Faction: Most likely either Brotherhood or lone wolf.

Human AU: Normal human, but never got the morphing power. Resents mutants because he wants to be one. Would easily volunteer himself for some enhancing program, or failing that might be with an anti-mutant group.

Human: Normal human, has morphing powers from blue box as per Animorphs canon. Wouldn't identify with mutants or humans. Lone wolf, minor villain type, takes what he wants when he wants. Reacts violently to confrontation, may be open to recruitment by people with strong military/disciplined temperaments due to his past as a military brat.

Hey you. :)

Q | James Bond (Skyfall) | ota

[personal profile] seniority 2012-12-10 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
| Human | Q is the quartermaster for MI6, charged with advancing technology for practical field use. MI6 is mutant friendly and takes advantage of their agents' abilities in their assignments, while Q himself is impartial on the subject, but enjoys the challenge of crafting technologies to overcome the abilities of enemy agents or to supplement MI6's own.

| Mutant | Why Technology Manipulation, of course.

rickitikitarr: (out of reach out of mind)

[personal profile] rickitikitarr 2012-12-10 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ricki Tarr has worked for MI6 under the leadership of a dozen different faces, a hundred different arrangements, codenames, protocols. That's the advantage of perpetual healing; one ages well. He'd seen Control come and go, worked with Maston and Smiley through the seventies and on, continued to help when the M designation came in, steadfastly useful as a competent, capable, forever-healing... well, they were scalphunters back in the day, he honestly can't remember what designation they've assigned him now.

One thing he does remember, though, is whenever he comes back in for a new passport, is to come bother his favourite quartermaster.

Which is why Q has one vaguely fallen-out-of-time looking spy perched on his chair, feet up on his desk, when he comes in for the day.]

I hear you've been working on something exciting.

|mutant|

mutant name; the biologist.

- molecular manipulation.

- as a molecular biologist serving on the u.s.s. eagle, carol gains a reputation for being wild, rebellious, and not taking orders. either carol was born with the mutation or she gains it from traveling past the galactic barrier or whatever.

|human|

- she's pro-mutant, more interested in discovering the mutation gene.

anything is a-okay.

Ricki Tarr: Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

[personal profile] rickitikitarr 2012-12-10 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Mutant Name: Scalphunter

Powers;

Longevity or healing, Wolverine style. Ricki is from a canon set in the early seventies. If we're doing any of the modern scenarios I would prefer that he have his canon history intact, that he simply not have realized he wasn't normal until he reached a certain age and stopped.

Scenarios: Most of them work okay. I would happily keep Ricki either an ongoing MI6 operative, or have had him cut ties with the organization as mutant/human relations devolved over time. Whatever side you put him on, his loyalties are likely unclear, and he may very well be spying for or on someone else, or possibly both.
